I believe the component creation code already builds the components in place
and more or less works as you would expect.

It looks like the original idea was to allow controlling the 'insertion
points' for child widgets via properties. I much prefer your solution, but
that's just my $0.02.

when we're doing a sub-component parse and we're parsing child nodes, 
there doesn't seem to be any reason to try and re-attach the child 
nodes. i imagine that code must be for something else, such as 
creating child components at runtime?
